Studies from Andrew Loomis
I recently received Andrew Loomis' book "Figure Drawing For All It's Worth" for my birthday and it's freaking amazing. My plan has been to read through it first, and then systematically work my way through it, doing studies as I go. You can buy it on Takealot here.
One of the things Loomis suggests in the book is to buy an artists mannequin to help with poses. I bought quite a small one and his legs don't move so well at the hips, but it's a fun start, and I definitely would recommend buying one if you don't already have.

"All Hallows Eve" for Tulips and Chimneys
Much like the illustration I did earlier this year for Tulips and Chimneys on Valentine's Day, this one I did as a piece for social media to promote the studio over Halloween.
Like the previous illustration I did, this one was also made up of a number of separate pieces which were then put together in Photoshop. The image below left was the thumbnail sketch I did, and you can see the various stages of the process that followed.
And the colouring process below that was done in Photoshop on my cintiq.

June Moleskine Sketches
Some sketches I did over about the course of a week this month. It's been cold okay, and the hearth is an awesome studio.

Some sketchbookin'
I went to Kirstenbosch Gardens the other day in Cape Town to do some drawing with my girlfriend, and a friend of ours, Juliette Bisset (Go check out her photography!). Such a super place, I really must get a Kirstenbosch card so I can go there more often!
(On a side note: Something really awesome that is currently under construction in Kirstenbosch is a canopy walkway designed by Juliette's brother, Christopher Bisset. When it is finally unveiled it should be pretty amazing. Check out pictures of it here.)
And below are some sketches from my sketchbook. I reckon I'm going to colour these first two guys below right.

Some dubious sketchbook art
For the past couple of months or so I have really wanted to improve my female figure drawing. I decided that instead of taking the typical life drawing approach to representing the female form, I would rather fuse some landscape art into the drawings.
The last drawing here was done whilst I was at Club Mykonos near Langebaan.

Tell me a story about him...
I got this awesome new sketchbook from my friends Danelle and Ben for my birthday last month, and I used it to bring this little guy to life. Tell me a story about about him in the comments below :)

Bringing the creepers to life.
These images were all drawn with pencil in my sketchbook, then brought into Photoshop to give them a bit of desaturated life. I prefer how the first one came out, and feel it would look good as a digital print.
