For a while I've been thinking about picking up sculpting again, but had never managed to find the best clay to work with. However, the other day on Instagram I saw Chet Zar busy sculpting in clay, and I noticed that he said it was called Chavant NSP Medium. A quick browse on Chavant's website led me to a place just around the corner from where I work in Cape Town called, Masque. There I managed to get a hold of some grey, medium density Chavant NSP for R250/900g. --------------------------------------------------- Helpful Links:
I went to Kirstenbosch Gardens the other day in Cape Town to do some drawing with my girlfriend, and a friend of ours, Juliette Bisset (Go check out her photography!). Such a super place, I really must get a Kirstenbosch card so I can go there more often!
(On a side note: Something really awesome that is currently under construction in Kirstenbosch is a canopy walkway designed by Juliette's brother, Christopher Bisset. When it is finally unveiled it should be pretty amazing. Check out pictures of it here.)
And below are some sketches from my sketchbook. I reckon I'm going to colour these first two guys below right.
Last week Thursday I began an oil painting class at Frank Joubert art centre in Cape Town. Its an 8 week course taught by Anne Foale. For the first lesson all that was required of me was to spend the entire 2 hours drawing a green pepper, which you can see below.
Below are some of the things I needed to purchase for the course. Some paint brushes, three primary colours and white, and some turpentine. The oil paints are a Winton Phthalo Blue 30, Winton Permanent Rose 49, Lukas Lemon Yellow 210, and Lukas Titanium White 208.
For the past couple of months or so I have really wanted to improve my female figure drawing. I decided that instead of taking the typical life drawing approach to representing the female form, I would rather fuse some landscape art into the drawings.
The last drawing here was done whilst I was at Club Mykonos near Langebaan.
I'm busy working on a new comic book project written by my friend at Massalo Photography. I cant write too much about it at the moment, but here are two images. The first is a work-in-progress of one of the character portraits, and the second is a character design for one of the characters.
These images were all drawn with pencil in my sketchbook, then brought into Photoshop to give them a bit of desaturated life. I prefer how the first one came out, and feel it would look good as a digital print.
